Solar Solutions Ltd (SSL) is an organization formed with the objective of promoting the implementation of renewable energy sources (RES) in Malta.

Extraction and use of fossil fuels has created serious environmental problems, mainly through carbon dioxide and other toxic emissions. Fossil fuel production and use are responsible for about three-quarters of man-made CO2 emissions. Globally, this has contributed to the ‘greenhouse effect’, bringing the leading countries to agree to a reduction of these gases through the Kyoto Protocol.

The other aspect which is creating financial pressure to switch to RES is the increasing global demand for oil, which has pushed the price of oil to record highs of  over $130 a barrel. Although the price of oil is down to around $50 a barrel in the beginning of 2009, it is our belief that the price of oil will once again start to increase in line with (eventual) global economic growth. The hefty electricity surcharge introduced in Malta reflects these concerns and also justifies further increases in the future; one has to also keep in mind that the global supply of oil is projected to last for around 30 to 50 years.

Some of the most efficient methods to reduce the dependence on traditional ways of generating electricity are Wind turbines & Photovoltaic (PV), the generation of electricity from the wind & sun. SSL have partnered with Kyocera Solar (PV manufacturers), Proven Engineering Products (small/medium wind turbine manufacturers) and SMA, the largest manufacturer of the most efficient inverters in the world.
